Whole-Body Vibration and the Development of Pain
Occupational exposure to whole-body vibration significantly increases the risk of back pain, and injury to the structures of the spine, but the nature of how vibration leads to the development of pain is not fully understood. This study aimed to define the non-linear resonance of the spine, and determine the development of pain resulting from an acute vibration exposure.

The results were consistent with previous studies, which have shown that the resonance of the spine reduces as the vibration acceleration increases, but this was the first study to demonstrate that the development of pain may be frequency-dependent, and may not relate to the resonance of the spinal column as a whole.
